I Am A Sculptor

I Am A Sculptor

I am a sculptor, a molder of form.

In every moment I shape an idol.

But then, in front of you, I melt them down

I can rouse a hundred forms

and fill them with spirit,

but when I look into your face,

I want to throw them in the fire.

My souls spills into yours and is blended.

Because my soul has absorbed your fragrance,

I cherish it.

Every drop of blood I spill

informs the earth,

I merge with my Beloved

when I participate in love.

In this house of mud and water,

my heart has fallen to ruins.

Enter this house, my Love, or let me leave.

The Divani Shamsi Tabriz, Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi

  3. Wonderful, passionate love poem, with lots of excellent word imagery to bring the reader right into this scene where the sculptor declares his love.

    • Muchas Gracias, Bonita! Have a look at my other post: “Your Beautiful Eyes”. Hope you like it as much as you do with this. 🙂

And how are you up there? Is everything you have in your life in Spain okay?

    • Hang On, Sharmishta, I don’t think I deserve the credit. The poem was written by Rumi. I am just the vessel. 🙂

      • i have been reading a handful of your poems, they are amazing.

well you did not write this one, what about the picture created by the words?

      • Oh, Rumi’s name as the author of the poem is clearly stated in both the picture and the last line I provided. And the picture comes from Haqqanism blogspot. If you move your cursor to the picture then it should tell you the title of the picture as well as where it comes from. 🙂

      • As Soma said, “…every word a mantra for beautiful life”. That is Rumi. It interests me how the Dervish elevates the asceticism of the Mendicant to a level of joy that is absent anywhere else in the realm of asceticism. This is a beautiful post. Thank you.

Thank you
