Malula

Malula was published in 2010 and is Subhan’s first novel. Widely praised by Indonesian readers, Malula is a captivating spiritual journey of Jennifer Frazer and Wijaya Kusuma.

Originally from two different cultures and religious backgrounds, Jen and Wijaya met and ventured in an everlasting quest of  finding God and understanding the purpose of life, a quest that starts in peaceful Canberra and ends in the serenity of Malula.

PLEASE NOTE: Despite being received well by Indonesian readers,  it is unfortunate that the small publisher that published Malula has now gone bankrupt and cannot continue the publication of the book into its second print. Subhan is currently working on a project, “The Disciple”, which he plans to complete in the end of 2013.  He is  planning to rework on Malula and he expects to complete it in 2015.

    • Oh, wow. thank you so much, Sofia. I am working at the moment on a book project that I plan to be a trilogy, and Malula would be something that I would like to rewrite after that. I am now thinking 2016/2017 to be the year when I rework on Malula. Please keep your fingers crossed for me, will ya? :-)

    • nanti aja, Ra, inshaallah yang versi bahasa Inggrisnya aja yah. Inshaallah aku rencanakan ini ditulis ulang dan dibuat dalam versi bahasa Inggrisnya buat HarperCollins atau Random House, mudah2an inshaallah rampung tahun 2015, biar bisa naik cetak worldwide 2016/2017. Mungkin terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya nanti sama Gramedia. Sekarang aku lagi ngerjain yang lain, The Disciple, mudah2an sampai akhir tahun depan. Sabar yah.. :-D

      Thank you very much. The book was well received in Indonesia, but due to unforeseen circumstances the publisher collapses and it hasn’t paid my royalty yet. I know, it is quite frustrating but it’s not going to stop me to keep going with my dreams. Thank you for having a faith on me. I really appreciate that. I’ve been toying with the idea of rewriting and publishing Malula in English, so there you go. It’s another book project for me that I will be doing in the next 2-4 years.

      And this has made me wonder to work with a much bigger publisher inshaallah. Hopefully the English translation will appear one day when it gets really successful, so you could find it in one of the book shelves in England. One day. Hehe.

      • It is sad that authors such as you, cannot find a publisher unless they pay for their books up front. Can you publish the whole book on this WordPress blog perhaps by chapter? That may be your best bet to share it with us. Cheers and congratulations in your writing.

      • Oh, my Malula is published in Indonesia. It’s written in Indonesian, not English. I am revising some bits of the book at the moment and once it’s done, hopefully one day the English version will appear. :-)
